West Reading Carnival Bank Holiday Monday
I love attending the West Reading Carnival, so much so our family have only missed one carnival and that was when Reading FC played Bolton for a place in the Premiership at the Play Offs at Wembley in 1995. Normally the carnival is unlucky with the weather but this does not dampen the spirit of the floats that light up Oxford Road. This year, however, the weather stayed dry and we even got a bit of sun. There were a good number of floats, although there wasn't a steel band this year. Crowds of young and old people enjoyed the carnival around West Reading to Prospect Park and we enjoyed the Jerk chicken and dumplings from the St Vincent tent, brilliant cooking washed down with a couple of cans of Fosters to the sounds of garage and R and B. I even got to have a go on the railways at Prospect Park, which are excellent. All in all, one of the best days out in Reading.
