Bath Road Reservoir: Local Labour Councillors pledge to support campaigners at the Inquiry
Labour Councillors for Minster and Southcote have promised to continue their opposition to Thames Water’s plans to build on the Bath Road Reservoir site and support the Bath Road Reservoir Campaign at the Public Inquiry in November.
Cllr. Debbie Watson (Minster), who moved the resolution to reject Thames Water’s plans at Planning Applications Committee last October, says: “I am appalled that Thames Water are pressing ahead with this application in the face of huge opposition from the local community, and that they failed to take up suggestions that they should talk to the Council and local people to try and come up with a more acceptable scheme.
“Instead, very cynically, they waited until the last possible moment, just after the General Election, to lodge their appeal, hoping to squeeze the last possible pound of profit out of their site.”
And Cllr.Pete Ruhemann (Southcote), who is also on the Planning Applications Committee, added: “We will be talking to local campaigners about how we can best support them at the Public Inquiry and get this application thrown out. We identified a whole range of problems with this application at Committee and will be happy to speak to them at the Inquiry.”
