Reading Borough Council Press Release

NEW Christ Church Primary School is holding a special blessing service on 21st January to celebrate the completion of a new extension.

The Milman Road school will welcome the Bishop of Reading, the Rt Revd Andrew Proud, officers from Reading and Hampshire councils and representatives from the school’s building contractors, Feltham Construction Ltd, for the opening.

The school used the neighbouring Christ Church Centre to create the new facilities; 2 classrooms – replacing temporary modular classrooms and not part of an increase of numbers at the school - a courtyard, a group room and a kitchen area. Improvements to an existing hall have also created a multipurpose sports, assembly and production area.

Acting Headteacher, Mrs Alice Boon says:

“We are delighted to have these new facilities at the school.

“The new classrooms have been designed to improve the learning experience of the children, and are large, temperature controlled and have specialist lighting. One classroom is a fully integrated ICT suite providing every child access to an individual laptop at any point of the day to further enhance learning.”

Councillor John Ennis, Reading’s Lead Member for Education, said:

“The extension was needed after New Christ Church expanded from a half to a single form entry school a few years ago, and I hope that both pupils and staff enjoy and benefit from the excellent new facilities.”
