During the conference sessions I lead teams of conference delegates out onto the streets of Reading to canvass for Naz Sarkar and Anneliese Dodds, Prospective Parliamentary candidates for Reading West and Reading East as well as local councillors, up for re-election. Over 50 people were out and about in Whitley discussing issues with local people. I was pleasantly surprised to meet a large number of Labour voters who were loyal and committed to supporting Labour candidates.
What is apparent is that many people have not yet made their mind up when clearly last year they were intending to vote for other parties. Many undecided voters wanted to know what we and the other parties were about and what we going to do to solve Britain's current issues, like job uncertainties and public spending. It is clear that many voters, who were against us last year where not impressed by the spin and personality politics of the Tories. The elctorate deserve to know what the parties were going to do after the election and they clearly do not trust parties that hide behind false slogans and posters that say and mean nothing. Therefore I was not surprised to hear about poll leads for the Tories narrowing to 6 and 7%.
