Good luck Gordon Brown, good luck David Cameron, good luck Lib- Dems, you are going to need it.

Sad to see Gordon Brown leave Downing Street with his family for the last time. He left in dignity and pride despite having to face the most poisonous, personal abusive media campaign against any Prime Minister in recent history. Some may choose to remember the low points of his premiership but they cannot deny the good work the Labour Government has done, including Child Tax Credits, Family Tax Credits, Sure Start, historically low inflation, low mortgage payments and full employment, something not seen throughout 18 years of the previous Tory administration.

Gordon Brown was given a difficult hand as Prime Minister. Ranging from terrorism, Foot and Mouth, storms, floods and snow and having to steer the country out of the most difficult global recession in generations. Labour got the big difficult decisions right in trying to stem the recession, Would the Tories and their Lib Dem allies do the same.

It is right that the Tories should form the next Government as they are the largest party. The people clearly did not want Labour led by Gordon Brown, but they also did not want an unfettered Tory Government, free to slash public services and they were lukewarm in their support for the Lib Dems. Therefore a coalition was on the cards. Good luck to David Cameron as Prime Minister, he made a good speech tonight, but the proof is in the pudding and it is notionally a Tory Government propped up by the Lib Dems. How long it will last in this present difficult economic climate is uncertain.

Good luck to the Lib Dems as they are going to need it. Whilst one or two of their policies may be successfully carried out, others such as an amnesty for illegal immigrants and an end to Trident will surely go, as will their pro-Europe stance. What now for genuine change in the voting system as the Tories clearly won't want change and what now for the slowing of the cuts in spending and a delay in cutting the deficit?

The Lib Dem in Reading West attacked Labour from the left with a number of ex-Labour Party members queueing up to condemn Labour for not being radical enough, wonder how they feel now with the Lib Dems in government with the Tories.
Al to was made of the TV debates with Clegg attacking Cameron on a whole host of issues that he has jettisoned for a seat in Government, interesting times it surely is. I hope the two parties get on more than they do locally as it would take a major shift to get the tow into one room to negotiate, let alone strike up a deal. I wish them good luck as they will need it because history has shown in other countries that the junior partner in a coalition government usually takes the blame for difficult decisions.
