Election promises to vulnerable and elderly ready to be broken

It is hard to believe that it was only five months ago when the three leaders were debating live on our tv's promising commitments whilst admitting that cuts needed to be made. The leaders knew full well the shape of the task ahead and how the deficit needed to be dealt with whilst trying to keep the momentum of growth going. Fast forward to last week and already Cameron and Clegg are trying to justify breaking their promises of maintaining winter fuel payments to the elderly and slashing Child benefit to families. Cameron went on about child poverty and the Labour "jobs tax" but it is exactly what he intends to do now. Would the electorate been so keen to vote Lib Dem or Tory if they knew what is going to happen next with this coalition?
