Day 8 final fast day.

Tuesday was the eighth and final day of my sponsored fast. I got like clockwork at 3.40am celebrated with Crunchy Nut Cornflakes and juice, watched TV and enjoyed the chance to eat quietly, alone in the middle of the night. These hours are very good for reflection. I enjoyed the final day with no food or water for over 16 hours. I sat with colleagues who were eating their food with no problem. The thing I liked about my fast was the generosity of people, absolutely amazing to help the victims of the floods. But also the conquering of my mind over matter, controlling my physical urges for food and water by my mind in control. I have spoken to many Muslims who told me that it was their faith that made them able to go thirty days without food and water for hours at a time. Whatever your views on religion are and the flaws of religious people you have to admire the strength of faith and sense of community Muslims show through fasting. I really enjoyed being involved in Ramadan and the Muslim community I will really miss this period.
