Day Seven of fasting will stop when we raise £1.000

Day 7 would you believe and I was awake this morning waiting to get up rather than the alarm wake me up. Had breakfast at 3.40am which included porridge, banana, water and orange juice. I went back to bed at 4.00am and awoke at 7.00am with little sleep. This has been the worst part of fasting, being awoken by the alarm in the middle of a deep sleep. I am told by fasters at my work that many muslims pray overnight until Ramadam has finished and Eid is celebrated.

I survived throughout the day but felt tired, thirsty and hungry at 3.00pm and sat quietly in a private spot for 20 minutes until I gained some strength.

I went to an Aftari with some work colleagues and members of the Pakistani community who hosted a lovely meal after the opening of the fast. I was moved and touched by their donations and kind words about how the muslim community were pleased that a non muslim local councillor would observe Ramadam properly for at least 7 days. I felt part of a welcoming community that constantly reaches out to other communities.

I raised more donations and will probably fast for one more day until I reach £1.000, currently the total collected stands at £930
