1639 people back campaign to extend Circuit Lane GP Surgery
In just a month, a massive 1639 people have signed a petition to Berkshire West Primary Care Trust asking them to approve an extension of the GP surgery in Circuit Lane, Southcote, which has the smallest area per registered patient of any GP practice in the area.
The petition was launched at a public meeting in Grange United Reform Church on 9 September, called by Southcote’s Labour Councillors, at which Dr David Horne put the practice’s case for extension, explaining how larger premises would enable them to provide even better services for their 10,500 patients. He was supported by Mr Bhanderi who runs the pharmacy in Coronation Square and who wants to work with Dr Horne and his colleagues in a bigger building at Circuit Lane.
Southcote Councillor Pete Ruhemann, who also spoke at the meeting, says they had been hoping for at least 1000 signatures but to get more than half as many again was fantastic and just showed the strength of feeling locally. “More and more services can and should be delivered from GP surgeries,” he says, “and while there isn’t the space at Circuit Lane Southcote people are losing out. I very much hope the PCT listens to what people are saying and gives these plans the go-ahead.”
