Reading Borough Council Press Release
A celebration event for newly qualified social workers at Reading Borough Council will take place early next month.
Eight social workers have successfully completed their first year in practice after qualification. Reading has been supporting a new initiative to support Newly Qualified Social Workers through a unique programme in Children's Social Care, which involves ensuring reduced caseloads and additional support and training to that normally provided to ensure they have the opportunity develop their skills after qualifying. The social workers then provide evidence of their learning throughout the programme in order to earn a certificate of success.
Over the coming weeks and months they will be putting their learning into practical use in the Council's Children's Social Care Teams.
The successful completion of the programme means the skills social workers have early in their career are enhanced and provide them with a much stronger foundation to their career, which also aids retention. Hopefully this will mean a long and successful career with Children's Social Care in Reading .
The eight successful social workers will be presented with their certificates by John Ennis, Reading 's Lead Councillor for Education and Children's Services, at the Penta Hotel in Reading on Monday February 6.
Councillor Ennis said: 'I'm always really pleased to be presenting successful social workers with their certificates. My personal congratulations goes to them all. I hope this is the first step towards a long and successful career at Reading in what is a vital area of the Council's work.'
