Reading Girls School OFSTED Inspection result : GOOD in every category

PRESS RELEASE
OFSTED INSPECTION
2 February 2012
Reading Girls’ School is delighted to report that under the new Ofsted Framework we
have been graded a good school in all four categories.
The Inspection was held over two days (18 and 19 January 2012). Achievement of students
has shown a convincing upward trend and there is a much clearer emphasis on learning
within the school. The progress made of students in the school is good regardless of their
starting points.
The Inspection found that teaching is good with examples of outstanding practice which
confirms the positive views held by parents and carers. Classrooms are very harmonious and
students work well together. The Inspection also found that Reading Girls’ is a well-ordered
school with considerate and respectful students displaying positive attitudes to their
learning. Attendance is above the national average.
The school and its staff share a vision that will ensure that such high expectations and
standards are maintained and improved upon.
“I am very proud of what we have all achieved at Reading Girls’ School. We have been
focused and determined to ensure that all students at RGS succeed in what they aspire to –
the whole school richly deserves this grading from OFSTED – we have always known we are
good but it is great that we have now received this recognition from OFSTED. This is now the
beginning of the next step of our journey to become an outstanding learning environment in
South Reading” – Mrs Viv Angus, Headteacher.
John Ennis, Reading's Lead Councillor for Education and Children’s services, said:
“We are so pleased for the Reading Girls’ School good inspection results and are
delighted Ofsted has validated such a glowing endorsement of all the hard work
from pupils, staff and especially Viv, Headteacher of the School. The school is a
beacon of inclusion and aspiration - I am sure that parents and students at the
school will be very proud of their achievements. Very well done to all concerned
