Inspecting Granville Road flats with local Tenants
On Saturday both Cllr Debs Edwards and myself walked around inspecting Granville Road Flats with local residents, Mark, Suzanne, Val and Gary, a member of Reading Borough Council Tenants Scrutiny Panel.
We found that the level of cleaning in some of the blocks has improved to a high standard, whilst other blocks haven't been cleaned for a period. We inspected the bin rooms and landing areas and we met with a number of Granville Road tenants to discuss how we can improve the area, making it cleaner and safer. The one major problem is the height of the grass throughout the area and we have made a number of requests to get the grass cut.
Mark and Suzanne have done a great job in bringing together residents and tenants in the Granville Road Tenants Association. They have big plans and have lobbied the council and worked with Housing Officers to get improvements to the lifts and the council has committed to completing external decoration of the blocks and to cull/scare pigeons away to improve the blocks.
