Official figures released by the DfE today show that GCE A Level results in Reading are yet again significantly better than those nationally. The average point score per student in the LA is 861.7compared with the national figure of 754.4. The points score per entry for Reading students is 242 compared with the national of 214.8. This result ensures that Reading remains as one of the highest ranking authorities in the country.



The GCSE figures published today show that the results of Reading pupils continue to improve from previous years and are consistently above the national averages.

The percentage of pupils achieving five or more GCSEs or equivalent by the end of Key Stage 4 at grades A*-C has increased from 80% in 2011 to 84.4% this year and remains above the national average of 81.8%

There has been a increase in the number of pupils achieving at 5+ A* to C including English and mathematics from 56% in 2011 to 60.7% in 2012 which is also above the national figure of 59.4%.

The average point score per pupil is 497.8 which is 25.8 points above the national figure.

The number of pupils leaving school with no qualifications now stands at 0.4% compared with 0.8% in 2011.

23.2% of pupils in Reading achieved the English Baccalaureate qualification compared with a national figure of 18.3%.

Reading Borough Council’s Lead Councillor for Education and Children’s Services, John Ennis, said: “A lot of work has gone into driving up standards and making improvements year on year in our secondary school – and these results show the fruits of that work. I want to congratulate our students and Reading ’s secondary schools for achieving these impressive results.”
