Open Day and Tea Party to Celebrate Community Centre Refurbishment.

Southcote residents are being encouraged to come along to an open day and tea party to celebrate the refurbishment of the local community centre in Coronation Square.


On Friday 15th February, from 2pm to 6pm, local people can come along to Southcote Community Centre and take a look at the improvements made to the facility, while enjoying a relaxing cup of tea and a bite to eat. At this free event, local people will get to know how to get involved in various activities at the centre organised by New Directions, SITE (Southcote IT Experience) and the Children Centre itself.


After a number of consultation events last year, the community centre now boasts: new front doors, a freshly decorated exterior, new flooring and storage, new toilets, IT equipment, soundproofing and acoustic work in the main hall and an extended community space called the 'Southcote Room'.


And it is the new 'Southcote Room' and the new main hall where young people aged 11 to 19 will have the chance to celebrate the new improvements to the community Centre. On Thursday 14th February, between 7pm and 10pm, Southcote Community Centre will be holding the 'Valentine's Day Jam' event for young people in the community for just 50p a ticket.


Rachel Eden, Lead Councillor for Neighbourhoods and Housing, said: "When we consulted on what to improve about Southcote Community Centre, a lot of people told us they wanted a facility that was truly an asset for the whole community. Residents, the council and local councillors have worked incredibly hard to ensure that there is something for every age group of the Southcote community at the Centre. I would encourage everyone to come along to the events to see what's on offer for them.'


To further celebrate the upgrade of the community centre, another party has been organised for Saturday 16th February. Residents over the age of 18 can celebrate the new and improved centre from 7.30pm to 11.30pm with the help of live music from 'Honeythunder' and 'DJ Providers'. Tickets to the event cost £3 and are first come, first serve.


Tickets for the events can be purchased from the Housing Advice Shop, Southcote Library, Southcote Children's/ Community Centre and the Christian Community Action shop.
