Extra funding for potholes, funding to renovate Arthur Hill Swimming Pool, funding for parks, just some of the decisions taken at tonight's Policy Committee.

The Policy Cttee tonight agreed several decisions that will have a beneficial effect on Reading's residents.

ARTHUR HILL SWIMMING POOL RENOVATION

The Policy Cttee on Reading's Labour Administration tonight agreed to set aside up to £100.00 to ensure the problems at Arthur Hill swimming baths are sorted. We are serious about preserving the continued use of Arthur Hill baths for the community of East Reading and the wider area.

MANAGING POTHOLES

Over £1.6m has been set aside to resurface the main major routes and many minor routes of Reading's roads. £1.165.600 for main routes and £438.750 on minor resurfacing. This budget is on top of repairs that are already taking place on Reading's roads that makes Reading one of the leading councils for fixing potholes. We can do this because we have an in-house resource of skilled workers, qualified to sort potholes of 300mm plus and Reading is not at the mercy of the market of private contractors.

Roads in Southcote to be included in the programme of resurfacing are; Circuit Lane (Southcote Lane to Bath Road), Southcote Lane,Honey End Lane, Burghfield Road and Liebenrood Road.

CAPITAL SPENDING ON LEISURE AND PARKS

Capital spending on parks and leisure was announced tonight at the Policy Cttee. This included £21.000 spending on Prospect Park to improve parking, new play equipment, outdoor fitness stations, additional furniture, lighting, signage, tree and bulb planting. A new skate park facility is being designed for the south west corner of the park to replace the skate park removed from the play area in nearby Virginia Way.
