End of season joy, hope for 2010-2011
Reading ended the season well at the Mad Stad putting ten goals past Preston and Peterborough and conceding only one. The omens look good for next year and we are looking really solid at the back, a mixture of grit and flair in the midfield and clinical finishing up front. Gylfi deserved his Player of the Season award and we need to hold onto him and others to stand a good chance of the play offs at the least next season. Federici looks strong in goal and hardly anything gets by him these days, but he may go elsewhere, Mills and Pearce are an ok defensive partnership but it will be crucial for the Royals to sign Griffin, Bertrand and Khizanishvili, any two will be good for our chances in 2010-2011. At last we have a good replacement for Sidwell in Jay Tabb and it has been a joy to watch Kebe and often Mcanuff turn on the style.
The best part of watching Reading under McDermott is the formation of a four, two, three one with Howard and Tabb sitting in front of the back four supplying Gylfi, Kebe and Mcanuff who in turn are just behind Long. It seems that Gunnarsson and Karacen can do the same job well and we have other young players coming forward. The future does look brighter after this interim season.
However, Reading have to find £4 million and the sale of players are inevitable. Hopefully the team Will stay together with squad players making way. I may be wrong but the future for next season looks better under McDermott and with two new players coming in, including a good striker we may be celebrating a return to the Premier League quicker than we thought.
